2025 Dux Named - News - Rongotai College

Rongotai College's 98th Annual Prizegiving was held on Thursday 4 December, 2025. The last major award of the night is the Arthur Jamieson Prize for the Dux of the School. The Dux of Rongotai College for 2025 was Ben Young.

Ben is an outstanding scholar, and was our Academic Prefect in 2025. He was 1st in Calculus, Chemistry, Geography and Physics. He was also awarded the Hyslop Memorial Prize for Excellence in Year 13 Sciences at Prizegiving, being the top Sciences student overall.

Ben is not only an outstanding scholar, he is also a very good sportsman, having represented Rongotai College in both our McEvedy team, basketball and floorball for a number of years. Ben has also been involved in a huge range of other activites. One of his highlights was the three weeks spent at Outward Bound ,which he had the privilege to experience courtesy of the college and the RC Old Boys’ Association. Of attending Outward Bound, Ben has said "I cannot fully express how thankful I am to have had such a transformative experience".

Ben has now moved to Christchurch to study engineering at the University of Canterbury. He stated "I could not feel more prepared to study than I do now - largely thanks to Rongotai College. I think I can speak for my peers who are also taking tentative steps into life in university or the trades when I say that we all have Rongotai to thank for setting us up to thrive."

Congratulations on your hard work Ben, and all the best for the future!
