Performing Arts


Rongotai College recognises the importance of co-curricular activities in providing students with valuable learning experiences outside of the classroom.  Students are encouraged to get involved in the vibrant cultural life of the school.

The college excels in areas of stage performance and music. There are many opportunities to acquire and develop new skills in the dramatic and musical arts co-curricular programme, such as:

  • Stage Productions – in 2009, the school performed “Bugsy Malone” in conjunction with students from Wellington East Girls’ College and in 2010 performed a selection of Cabaret Classics.  2011 saw the school perform ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ in conjunction with students from Queen Margaret College, St Catherine’s College, Wellington East Girls’ College and Seatoun School.  In 2013 “Jesus Christ Superstar” was performed in conjunction with students from Wellington East Girls’ College, St Catherine’s College and Wellington High School, while in 2015 “Grease” was performed.  “Oliver!” was performed in 2017 and in 2019, “The Wizard of Oz” and in 2021 Rongotai staged an impressive performance of “Jesus Christ Superstar with female leads from Wellington East Girls’ College.
  • Musical Performance, such as the Rongotai College Big Band, show orchestra, Barbershop and the Jazz Combo.
