Academic

The aim of the Academic section of our website is to give parents and students a clear outline of what we offer in terms of our curriculum at Rongotai College. It contains details of the College’s academic programmes, the structure of courses, and the range of subject options.

The academic philosophy of the College is that boys have the best opportunities to learn when they are extended and our expectation is that they will push themselves to achieve to their potential.

We are committed to providing a learning environment that allows our young men to be the best that they can be, and to ‘Strive for Excellence’.

The school offers courses at all levels of the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA). We believe that gaining a high-quality New Zealand education by following a New Zealand-based curriculum is crucial. NCEA works well for our students. Level 1 will continue to be offered in 2024.

At Rongotai College, we believe it is important to keep parents regularly informed of their sons’ progress. Weekly Engagement Reports are sent to parents at the end of each week during each school year, and parents are sent full reports at the end of Term 2, end of Term 3 (Years 11-13) and end of Term 4 (Years 9 and 10). There are several opportunities for parents to meet with teachers to discuss their child’s progress during the year. The partnership between parent and teacher in the success of boys cannot be underrated, and is crucial to the success of our students.

Academic Excellence

Our teaching programmes have a focus on the academic outcomes for each student; we employ great teaching and support staff, have specialised learning environments, and provide a well-rounded curriculum and co-curricular programmes that are designed to prepare our young men for the future.
