Our current vacancies include:

1. Head of Tamatoa Supported Learning Unit (Applications close: 18 September 2026). We are seeking an innovative, energetic and relationship-focused teacher to lead our Learning Support Unit. The successful applicant will provide leadership for the delivery of high-quality, individualised teaching and learning programmes for students with high and very high learning needs, ensuring each student is supported to reach their full potential. They will lead and support teachers and teacher aides, oversee the planning, monitoring and evaluation of programmes, and work collaboratively with whānau, staff and external agencies to achieve the best outcomes for students. Applicants must be NZ registered teachers and demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusive education and the values of Rongotai College. This is Permanent position commencing Term 1, 2027, with units by negotiation.

2. Teacher of Science – Permanent, Full-time (Applications close: 21 September, 2026.)  We are seeking an enthusiastic and engaging Science teacher to join our collaborative and well-resourced Science Department in a permanent, full-time position. The successful applicant will be an effective classroom practitioner with strong curriculum knowledge, high expectations for student achievement and the ability to build positive relationships with students. The ability to teach Science across the junior school is essential, with the ability to teach a senior Science subject an advantage. We are looking for a teacher who will contribute positively to the ongoing development of Science at Rongotai College, work collaboratively with colleagues and support the wider life of the College. Applicants must be NZ registered teachers and fully conversant with the New Zealand Curriculum and current NCEA requirements. This position will commence at the start of Term 1, 2027.

3. Teacher of Social Sciences (History and/or Geography) – Fixed Term, Full-time (2 Years) (Applications close: 21 September, 2026.)  We are seeking an enthusiastic and engaging History and/or Geography teacher to join our Social Sciences Department, covering for a teacher on leave. The successful applicant will be an effective classroom practitioner with strong curriculum knowledge, high expectations for student achievement and the ability to build positive relationships with students. The ability to teach History and/or Geography to senior level would be an advantage. We are looking for a teacher who will bring enthusiasm for the Social Sciences, work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute positively to the wider life of the College. Applicants must be NZ registered teachers and fully conversant with the New Zealand Curriculum and current NCEA requirements. This position will commence at the start of Term 1, 2027.

4. Special Needs Teacher (Permanent, Full or Part-Time by negotiation). (Applications close: 21 September, 2026.)  We are seeking an enthusiastic, caring and relationship-focused teacher to join our Tamatoa Learning Support Unit. The successful applicant will provide engaging, individualised learning programmes that support students with additional learning needs to develop academically, socially and personally, while building confidence and independence. Working collaboratively with the Teacher in Charge, learning support staff, whānau and specialist providers, you will contribute to IEP planning and review, monitor student progress and help ensure every student is supported to achieve their potential and participate fully in College life. This position will commence at the start of Term 1, 2027. Applicants must be NZ registered teachers and demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusive education and positive relationships.  

TEACHER AIDE

Fixed Term | Part Time | 25 hours per week | Term time only

Rongotai College is seeking a caring, capable and enthusiastic Teacher Aide to join our Learning Support team and help students engage confidently and successfully in their learning.

Working alongside classroom teachers and our Learning Support team, you will provide support to students both within the classroom and, where appropriate, on an individual or small-group basis. The role will particularly support students with a range of learning needs and help them to participate fully in school life.

We are looking for someone who:

• builds positive and respectful relationships with young people;
• communicates well and enjoys working collaboratively as part of a team;
• is patient, adaptable and responsive to individual student needs; and
• is comfortable using technology, or willing to develop skills in assistive technologies that support student learning.

Previous experience in learning support or working with young people would be an advantage, but is not essential. The successful applicant will receive support and opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills in learning support and inclusive education.

This is a fixed-term position until the end of Term 4, 2026, working 25 hours per week during school term time only. The position is available to commence as soon as possible, or by negotiation.

The successful applicant will be required to undergo police vetting and safety checking in accordance with the Children's Act 2014 and the College's child protection requirements.
