Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award

Want to make a difference?  Why not start with you?

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is an internationally recognised programme that supports students to learn a new skill, develop their sporting abilities and make a difference to themselves and their community through volunteer service and adventure.

Students typically join the programme at the beginning of Term One to take advantage of local coaches, teachers and trainers that can guide them through their individualised programme for change.  This will look different for everyone and all are welcome to join regardless of previous experience:

  • Improve your swimming.
  • Pick up an electric guitar.
  • Learn to grow your own food.
  • Plant an orchard.
  • Hike the Tararuas.
  • Run a marathon (or just start running).
  • Volunteer at a local food bank.
  • Meet new people and see new places.

If this sounds like you, please consider joining this years’ cohort of change-makers and get in touch with the programme co-ordinator, Dr J Richardson at  [email protected].

Tryouts have started and we are looking for committed citizens interested to make a difference.
