Sports Update – Week Ending 6 August 2021

Rongotai is a like a micro version of New Zealand when it comes to the Olympics, we are small in size but we punch above our weight, this is highlighted but ALL our premier teams being in the codes top divisions and come finals time we are always in the hunt. In Sport they always say ‘win your last game’ and as our College Sport seasons begin to wrap out many of our teams are well placed to do this – take inspiration from our athletes pulling on the fern over in Tokyo and create some of our own ‘Golden’ moments – good luck this weekend lads!

BASKETBALL
It’s been an uphill battle for our Senior As this year but there have been plenty of quality individual and team performances interlaced into our results. They took on Wellington College last Friday and went down 68-98.

The Junior teams have fared better with the Junior As defeating Silverstream B 76-56 and our Junior B team beating Wellington College 57-49 to remain undefeated for the season – awesome work lads!

FOOTBALL
The 1st XI played Onslow College in a battle for outright 4th place over the weekend, in a tough battle that could have gone either way we went down 2-3. They slip out of the top four but still have the competition to play for and Nationals during Winter tournament week.

HOCKEY
The 1st XI travelled to Wanganui over the weekend and played in the annual Central North Island tournament and came away with a well-earned 2nd place and only just going down to the eventual champions in a shootout.

RUGBY
The 1st XV played Mana College and ran away with a 28-14 win on a sluggish pitch and a gritty opposition. All teams will have play-offs for placing this year so keep an eye out on the college sport website for game time and venue information.
