Sports Update – 15 February 2019

With summer sport getting underway, there has been a lot of sports action in the past week.

Last Friday night, senior volleyball kicked off their season with a good 3-2 win over Taita College and a 3-0 win over Mana College at home.

On Saturday, the 1st XI cricket side had a tight game against Newlands College, with the game being decided in the last over. Rongotai College made 203 for 8 in their 50 overs, with Bevan Cox and Henry Wells both scoring 51, while Matt Carter scored 39. In reply, Newlands were all out for 194 in 49.4 overs, with Matt Carter, Bevan Cox, Ollie White and Milan Bastiampillai (in his first competitive game for the 1st XI) all taking 2 wickets. Well done boys!

Congratulations to the boys who took part in the 3×3 Quest basketball tournament on the weekend. Although not a CSW schools event, we had a number of boys in the junior competition – Liam McCorry, Harvey Lye, Gregor Burns, Phillip Tawera, Isaac Parker, Mona Robinson, Liam Bedford, Webster Lepaio. Congratulations to the senior boys who won the final – Ben Pearce, Evy Tabor, Zach Campbell-Smith and Kane Upton-Mahan. Well done lads.

On Tuesday the Rongotai Premier tennis team of Angus Doddridge and Jordan Chan won comfortably against Hutt Valley High school 3-0. Last night the Waterpolo side had a strong win against St Bernards 14-1.

Big congratulations to all the boys who made the athletics finals which were held on Tuesday. It was great to see the hard work at training starting to pay off with many boys recording personal bests on the track and field. The names of those selected to represent Rongotai this year at McEvedy will be released shortly. All boys are invited to continue train together at the track and during lunch times so you can improve your speed, strength and endurance.

Futsal and floorball trials are now complete. Futsal teams have been posted on the sports noticeboard and floorball teams will be posted on Monday. Don’t forget that junior futsal competitions start Friday at the ASB. Bowls, floorball, zonal tennis and senior futsal all start next week.

Good luck to those teams representing the school over the next week.
