The Rongotai College Big Band is an outstanding group. This year they have again performed a number of ‘gigs’ across Wellington and at festivals in Tauranga, Wellington and Palmerston North, winning both gold and silver awards at the NZ Youth Jazz Competition at Tauranga.  Band leader and bassist Thomas J. Moore (Student Arts Prefect) and Rex McKee (Drums) were awarded trophies as the best in their instruments at this competition, with Rex gaining similar awards at the Manawatu and Wellington festivals. Huge thanks must go to Mr G Crayford, for the hours he has put in to make this group the hugely successful ensemble that it is.

The big band has built over the last four years, around a cohort of very talented young men who have now come to the end of their time at Rongotai College.   To celebrate the success of the group to date, they recorded an album which was released in early December and had a special release event at The Realm in Hataitai.

The Big Band will continue to perform, with a rebuilt equally talented group of boys in 2020.
