The Kapa Haka and Poly Groups have recently performed at their respective festivals.
Both groups performed to an extremely high standard and were very well received by the audiences.
After many weekends of intense practice, the Kapa Haka group (including girls from Wellington East Girls’ College and students from Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Nga Mokopuna) participated in the Secondary Schools’ Kapa Haka regional competition held in Wellington. Thank you to all the tutors and parents involved in making the experience for these students so rewarding.
The high level of performance from the Poly Group was also the result of a huge effort by the boys and the many hours of practice. Thank you to the staff, parents and old boys involved with the group for the hours they put in – it was much appreciated.
Special thanks should go to Mrs Fiu for her hard work in bringing the boys together and finalising their routine, and a number of other staff who helped in various ways.
Rongotai College were awarded the Asotasi Va’a Makisi Cup, presented for ‘spirit of working together, kindness, teacher / student relationships, parents / family / community support, komiti support, performances of depth and character’. This award was decided by the Tu Tangata Komiti. It is truly an honour for our boys to have received this award.
