2018 News and Events

Summer Tournament Week - 19-23 March
Summer Tournament week has just finished and there were some seriously impressive performances from our summer codes on the national stage, especially our Junior Floorballers who won the NZ Secondary School Championship!. Summary of all final positions are below;

Junior Floorball - 1st in NZ
Senior Futsal - 2nd in NZ
Softball - 3rd in NZ
Junior Futsal - 4th in NZ
Senior Floorball - 5th in NZ
Senior 3x3 Basketball - 6th in NZ
Junior 3x3 Basketball - 8th equal in NZ
Volleyball - 20th in NZ

The Rongotai Croquet side also came 3rd at the Wellington Regional Champs to qualify for the Nationals later in the year.

 

Relay for Life - 17-18 March
A group of 180 boys supported by staff and parents, participated in the Cancer Society - Relay for Life at Frank Kitts Park, Wellington. While raising a substantial amount of money for the Cancer Society the boys had a great night, running lap after lap for a very worthy cause. A lot of fun was had at the event as the boys supported one another. The Rongotai College boys ran 433 laps, the third highest number of laps run on the night. Well done boys!

       

 

 

 

 

 

 


McEvedy Memorial Shield - 6 March
Newtown Park was once again the venue for the four colleges (Rongotai College, Wellington College, St Pat's Town and St Pat's Silverstream) to contest the annual athletics event between the colleges. Wellington College were again triumphant in 2018.

Rongotai College athletes participated well.

 

 

 

 


Athletics Participation Day - 8 February
The whole school turned out at Newtown Park for a fun-filled day of athletics. House points were given for participation, while a number of athletics took the opportunity to show their skills. Participation rates were high which is extremely pleasing. Students competed in the various modalities and a lot of fun was had.  Lock House gained the most points on the day.

 

 

 

 


Academic Awards Assembly - 2 February
At the first Friday assembly for 2018, Academic Awards were presented to those students who gained NCEA Excellence endorsements. Excellence endorsement students were presented with an a Merit endorsement students were presented with a certificate.

Those students who received Excellence endorsements were:
Level 3 - Daniel Gibbs, Tom Hughes, Rian Lee and Sathvik Panda.
Level 2 – Jake Brownlie, Angad Chauhan, Andrew Eng, Ollie Galvin, Henry Hollis, Eric London, Ethan Mills, Sampson Mollan, Taine Murphy, Luke Purves and Adam Rybinski.
Level 1 - Dean Banks, Bede Brown, Jacob Chadwick, Devin Cho, Stefan Jenkins, Sean Lane-Turnbull, Lufi Lene Isara, Robbie Spooner, Thomas J Moore, Ruhan Saiyad, Charlie Symon and Cameron Young

Congratulations was also extended to the large group of boys who gained endorsements. Well done, boys!

At a special assembly, the Principal, Mr Carter, announced the Prefects for 2018.

Powhiri - 29 January
New students and staff members, along with some parents of the new students, were welcomed with a powhiri on the first morning of school.

The Principal, Mr Kevin Carter addressed the school, warmly welcoming them to Rongotai College and wishing them well for their time here. He also pointed out that to get the best out of their time at Rongotai College, our boys
• give their best effort and aim to be the best they can be at all times, whether in the classroom, on the sports field or in performance areas;
• fully embrace and involve themselves in all that the school has to offer;
• treat each other with respect at all times;
• show pride in themselves and the school at all times, in particular in how they wear their uniform;
• take advantage of the fresh start that moving to a new school can bring and look to become “the man they would like to be”.
