GATEWAY
Gateway is a work-based learning programme, which gives opportunities for students to explore the career pathway of their choice, and at the same time work towards gaining their NCEA qualifications. It is an initiative developed and supported by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC), and builds on existing partnerships between the school, Industry Training Organisations (ITOs) and employers.
Gateway Students experience the enjoyment and challenges of working within a safe and structured workplace for one day each week. All students are assessed in their workplace and can gain credits towards a National Certificate. Furthermore, the Gateway studies class operates in the school timetable alongside their other school classes. All Gateway students complete and obtain their First Aid Certificate and Health and Safety unit standards before they can go into the workplace.
